Vassell is available on a free transfer after leaving Turkish Super Lig side Ankaragucu in the summer.
New Leicester boss Sven Goran Eriksson is keen to reshape the squad at the Walkers Stadium and has already brought in Curtis Davies and Kyle Naughton on loan deals from Aston Villa and Tottenham respectively.
Eriksson is a big fan of Vassell having worked him during his time in charge of England and he handed the 30-year-old his debut for his country.
The signing of Vassell would provide Leicester with a massive boost as they look to kick-start their season after a disappointing start.
