Agent insists Argentine will not leave Serie A leaders

Lazio striker Mauro Zarate's agent Jose Alberti has insisted that the player is staying at the club. The Argentine has played a major part in the Rome-based club's surprise rise to the top of Serie A so far this season Zarate has previously played in England, where he starred for Birmingham in 2008 on loan from Qatari side Al Sadd, but could not stop their relegation to the Championship. The 23-year-old has been consistently linked with a move to some of Europe's biggest clubs, with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Barcelona all reportedly interested in his services.

Dismissed

Alberti however dismissed the rumours, stating that the Biancocelesti will be keeping Zarate, although he suggested that City could be his most likely destination. "Zarate doesn't move from Rome. He is well and the president (Claudio) Lotito doesn't want to sell him," Alberti told tuttomercatoweb. "He is followed by Sevilla but Manchester City and Barcelona are also interested in him. "I think if he would leave Lazio, City will be the most likely hypothesis."
