Stephen Crainey has admitted he feared his Scotland career had come to a premature end.
The Blackpool defender last represented his nation in 2004 against Denmark in what was his sixth cap.
But 29-year-old Crainey is poised to make his first Scotland appearance in six years after being named in manager Craig Levein's side for Tuesday's friendly against the Faroe Islands.
He said in the Daily Record: "I am delighted to get back in the squad. It was an ambition of mine to catch Craig Levein's eye. I did not want to give up on it. I thought I had something to offer Scotland.
"At times I did feel I'd been forgotten about. But some good players were there ahead of me.
"I kept my head down and worked hard. Gary Naysmith won a lot of caps but a few different players have now had a crack at left-back.
"Lee Wallace was unlucky to get injured and you've guys like Steven Whittaker and Kirk Broadfoot who are good players and can also play on the right."
