Van der Vaart and Bale doubts to face Bremen

Tottenham have doubts over key duo Rafael van der Vaart and Gareth Bale ahead of their clash with Werder Bremen. Spurs take on the German outfit at White Hart Lane on Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League as they hope to secure a place in the last 16 of the competition. Harry Redknapp's men overcame rivals Arsenal in a dramatic North London derby at the weekend, completing a 3-2 comeback win at Emirates Stadium. Bale was on target against the Gunners but he is struggling with a shoulder problem while Van der Vaart, who also found the back of the net with a penalty, has an ankle knock. However, Tottenham were boosted by the return of Jermain Defoe on Saturday and Robbie Keane also trained on Tuesday.

Big loss

On Van der Vaart, Redknapp said: "He's struggling a little bit. "Obviously it would be a big loss to us. He's been in great form but Jermain Defoe is coming back for us, he trained this morning. "Robbie Keane trained this morning. "Gareth Bale hopefully will be fit, he's the only other doubt. We'll have to see how he is tomorrow." Spurs have a 100 per cent home record at home in their debut Champions League campaign, having already dispatched of FC Twente and Inter Milan. Sandro is ineligible to face Bremen and there are still concerns over Niko Kranjcar (calf) and Giovani dos Santos (groin), while captain Ledley King (groin), Michael Dawson (ligament damage), Jamie O'Hara (back) and Jonathan Woodgate (groin) are long-term absentees.
