Premier League finds in favour of player over owed bonus

The Premier League has found in favour of Charlie Adam over his bonus dispute with Blackpool. Adam had been in dispute with Blackpool over an unpaid £20,000 survival bonus from last season. The matter went before a Premier League arbitration panel in London earlier this month when Adam claimed the terms of his contract had been breached by the club's failure to pay a 'Championship survival' bonus. It has been suggested that Adam could possibly leave the club on a free transfer for a breach of contract had the Premier League agreed with the player. However, despite finding in Adam's favour over the bonus, the Premier League insists Blackpool have not breached the midfielder's contract. A Premier League statement read: "A Board appeal hearing, convened under Premier League rules, was held on Thursday, November 4 to consider a dispute between Blackpool FC and Charles Adam. "The hearing specifically considered a bonus payment that Mr Adam believed he was due from the club and whether non-payment of the bonus amounted to a repudiatory breach of his contract. "The Appeal Board found in favour of Mr Adam in relation to the bonus payment but deemed the non-payment was not a repudiatory breach of the player's contract. "Each party has until Friday, November 26 to appeal the decision." The former Rangers man has established himself as a key member of the Blackpool side since arriving in the summer of 2009, leading them to promotion to the Premier League last season and news of the matter being resolved will come as a welcome boost to Seasiders boss Ian Holloway.
