Stoke chairman believes defender will be unfazed at Emirates

Stoke chairman Peter Coates insists Ryan Shawcross will not be fazed by the trip to the Emirates at the weekend. The Potters defender will face the Gunners for the first time since February's challenge on Aaron Ramsey which resulted in the young Arsenal midfielder suffering a badly broken leg. While Ramsey has recovered full fitness and is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest, Shawcross is expected to come in for a rough reception at the Emirates. But Potters chairman Coates feels the highly-rated centre-back will not be fazed by the occasion. "Ryan has got over it," Coates said in the Stoke Sentinel. "He has overcome any difficulties presented to him and everyone has seen how well he has been doing for us."

Not worry

Meanwhile, former Stoke boss Lou Macari also thinks Shawcross should not worry if he gets a hostile reception. "All Shawcross is guilty of is being involved in an unfortunate accident," Macari wrote in the Sentinel. "The lad hasn't got a bad bone in his body, so he shouldn't be too bothered about any abuse. "I'm sure he will concentrate on helping Stoke get a result, although that is a huge task."
