James Perch admits Newcastle are hoping to turn around their form in their next two games against West Ham and Wigan.
Alan Pardew's reign at St James' Park started well with a win over Liverpool but the Magpies have since slumped to defeats against Manchester City and Tottenham.
They now face ties against the Hammers and the Latics and Perch says the club always knew these were the games to pick up points.
"We looked at this period and we had Man City on Boxing Day and Tottenham away so we knew it was going to be tough and that if we were to get anything out of both games, we'd have done well," he told Newcastle's
official website.
"We haven't managed to do that, so we'll look to put that right against Wigan and West Ham in our next two games."
Perch returned to the side at left-back for the clash at White Hart Lane on Tuesday, but could do nothing to prevent the 2-0 defeat.
The 25-year-old versatile player says he was pleased to make the starting XI but would rather the result had been better.
"I was delighted to come back into the team - but I'm not pleased about the result," he added.
"We actually thought we did alright - but maybe not enough to win the game.
"We came here and put in a decent performance, but just not quite enough to win."
