Alex McLeish fears Birmingham defender Scott Dann could be out for a few weeks with a torn hamstring.

Defender suffers hamstring injury against West Ham

Alex McLeish fears Birmingham City defender Scott Dann could face a few weeks on the sidelines with a torn hamstring. Dann suffered the injury towards the end of the first half of Tuesday evening's 2-1 defeat at West Ham United in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final. He was replaced for the second period by David Murphy and is waiting to learn the full extent of the injury. Blues boss McLeish believes the centre-half has torn his hamstring and that would likely rule Dann out of action for several weeks.

Fine form

"Scott has a hamstring injury, and it looks like a tear," said McLeish after the game. "It's a blow because he's another player who has been in fine form. "Our medical team will continue to assess him and we'll have a clearer picture in the next 48 hours." If Dann is forced onto the sidelines it will be the first time his partnership with Roger Johnson has been broken up in the Premier League this season when Birmingham face local rivals Aston Villa on Sunday.
