Championship outfit let Spanish midfielder leave

Swansea have confirmed that Jordi Lopez has left the club by mutual consent. The Spanish midfielder had six months left on his contract with the Championship club but the two parties have agreed to terminate it with immediate effect. The 29-year-old joined the club on a two-year deal shortly after Paulo Sousa took charge in the summer of 2009. The Barcelona youth product had played under Sousa at QPR the previous season but failed to establish himself in the Swans' midfield, making just 20 first-team appearances for the South Wales club.

One league start

Only five of those came this season and the former Sevilla and Mallorca man has not featured since the goalless draw with Derby in October, with his solitary league start this term coming on the opening day. "Swansea City would like to thank Jordi for his effort and commitment, and would like to wish him all the very best for the future," read a statement on the club's official website. Sousa was replaced by Brendan Rogers in the summer and the new boss has led the Swans to fourth place heading into the second half of the Championship season.
