Midfielder hurts same leg as earlier in the season

Middlesbrough midfielder Kevin Thomson faces another spell on the sidelines after suffering a hairline fracture to his leg. Thomson has hurt the same leg as earlier in the season when he fractured his fibula on only his second appearance for Boro. The Scotland international has not featured for Boro since being forced off in the New Year's Day draw at Leeds United and is waiting to learn the full extent of his lay-off. Boro boss Tony Mowbray confirmed the injury and he is disappointed to have lost a key player in the club's battle to pull clear of trouble in the Championship. "He had some scans this week and they've shown a hairline fracture in the same place as he had his initial break, which is disappointing for us and, of course, for him," said Mowbray. "The scans show he's potentially played with the injury in some games, which is great credit to Kevin. "Whether he'll be out for weeks or months we wait to see, but I like Kevin Thomson, I had him in my team at Hibs and the sooner he's back, the better."
