Leicester are aware of interest in Martyn Waghorn, but have called on the striker to fight for his place.
The 21-year-old has been involved over recent weeks as Paul Gallagher and Darius Vassell have been sidelined.
Vassell is now back in contention, though, and Gallagher is closing on a first-team return.
That has cast doubt over Waghorn's future, with Derby reported to be among those keen to land him on loan.
Leicester assistant manager Derek Fazackerly admits the Foxes will speak with the player before taking any decision regarding a move, but insists they remain hopeful that the youngster will agree to stay and provide added competition for places.

"We are well aware there are several clubs out there who possibly want to take Martyn Waghorn on loan, but we are in no hurry to move him out," he said.
"We've got to assess where we are in the next two or three days in regard to injuries. Then we will sit down and have a chat with Martyn and see what is best for him and the club.
"But there are going to be a lot of games between now and the end of the season. We hope to be pushing for at least the play-offs and people like him are going to be very important.
"We absolutely want him to stay and we've had a conversation with him about where he is. I can only reiterate he is part of our plans and we want him to stay."
