No Forest return for Shorey

Roberto Di Matteo has dismissed reports linking Nicky Shorey with a return to Nottingham Forest.

Baggies rule out full-back exit

West Brom boss Roberto Di Matteo has dismissed reports linking Nicky Shorey with a return to Nottingham Forest. It had been suggested that the Reds, who took the full-back on loan from Aston Villa last season, had approached the Baggies regarding Shorey's availability. Di Matteo has refuted such talk, though, and insists the two-cap England international will be going nowhere for now. He admits his stance may alter if circumstances change, but is not expecting to part with the 29-year-old defender any time soon. He told the Express and Star: "Nothing is going on with Nicky. There's no truth in it. Nicky is not going anywhere. He is part of this squad. I can't see anyone leaving at the moment. "Maybe towards the end of the window it might change if something else happens."

Necessity

For now Di Matteo is focused on strengthening his squad and admits he is a supporter of the transfer window system, even if he has been frustrated in his efforts so far. "Generally speaking I think it's a good idea to be able to review things in January and be able to make changes," he said. "You could be in a position where you have so many injuries and suspensions that you are decimated and the transfer window gives you a chance to do something about it. "I think it is a necessity to have transfer windows. Many years ago it was available for the whole season but this system is better. "This gives you more stability, otherwise you could lose any player at any time."
