Norwich defender Russell Martin has signed a new deal to keep him at Carrow Road until 2014.

Right-back commits future to club

Norwich defender Russell Martin has signed a new deal to keep him at Carrow Road until 2014. The 25-year-old right-back joined the Canaries on a permanent basis last January following a successful loan spell from Peterborough. Martin was instrumental in helping the club to the League One title last season, making the full-back position his own in the process. Norwich boss Paul Lambert has expressed his delight about the long-term capture of a player he rates highly. "He deserves it for the way he's been playing. He's come from Posh and has done really well since he's been here," Lambert told the club's official site. "He's a top professional in terms of his training and the way he plays the game and I'm pleased for him and the club."

Healthy position

Martin hopes that the Canaries, who currently sit comfortably in the promotion places, can push on and gain promotion to the top flight in the summer. "I'm delighted to have signed a new contract. I love it here and we're doing well and heading in the right direction," he said. "Playing under this manager, at this club and with the players I have around me I feel like I have improved and hopefully people can see that. "This new contract gives me a platform to continue that and the fans have been great since I've been here and I'm hopefully here for a few more years to come."
