Vale boss looking to bring players in rather than loan them out

Port Vale boss Jim Gannon has rejected speculation linking midfielder Gary Roberts with a move away from the club. Roberts has featured in just four of the 11 matches since Gannon replaced Micky Adams, who departed for Sheffield United in January. Reports claimed that the 24-year-old had been given permission to leave the club on loan, with Sheffield United and Bristol Rovers being mentioned as possible candidates to sign the talented midfielder. However, Gannon revealed that he had no plans to let the former Crewe Alexandra player leave the club, and that he did not expect any other players to go out on loan before the close of the window on 24th March.

Inaccurate

He told the club's official website: "We have not had a conversation about Gary leaving the club on loan and we will not be having a conversation. Gary has been, and continues to be, a very important member of the squad. "At no time have I given him permission to join another football club on loan. Any reports to the contrary are simply inaccurate. "We have a relatively small squad and have no plans at present for players to leave. "I am currently in the process of negotiating with a number of clubs to bring in loan players to strengthen our push for promotion, rather than allowing players to leave. I am confident one of those players will be joining in the near future."
