Zubizarreta pleased to see defender in 'high spirits'
Barcelona defender Eric Abidal is recovering well following surgery to remove a liver tumour, according to the club's sporting director, Andoni Zubizarreta.
France international Abidal underwent the operation in Spain last Thursday and it is hoped that he will leave hospital later this week.
The 31-year-old is highly unlikely to return to playing until next season, but Zubizarreta is pleased to see his colleague is not suffering.
"He is fine, in good shape and in high spirits," Zubizarreta told Mundo Deportivo after visiting Abidal at the hospital.
"I passed on all the signs of affection that many clubs have sent him."
Barcelona are five points ahead of nearest rivals Real Madrid in La Liga, have already qualified for the final of the Copa del Rey and are still in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
Barcelona and Getafe players paid tribute to Abidal as they came out wearing T-shirts dedicated to the player during their league match on Saturday.
