Wigan boss unhappy over Caldwell clash

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has hit out at Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko following his weekend clash with Gary Caldwell. The Latics defender was caught in the face by the Russia international during Saturday's 0-0 draw at the DW Stadium and required dental treatment following the match. Captain Caldwell battled on to complete the full 90 minutes and earned the fulsome praise from his manager as the North West club battle against the drop. But Martinez was less than impressed by the action of Pavlyuchenko and bemoaned the fact the incident was not spotted by the match officials.

Bravery

The Spanish tactician said: "Gary took a nasty blow to the mouth from Roman Pavlyuchenko. "It's a shame the referee didn't see it because it's the kind of action you don't want to see on the football pitch. "His three front teeth were out of position and the dentist has worked on that. "It would take something special to get Gary off the pitch. He shows the kind of bravery and example you want from a captain."
