Redknapp rejects talk of summer swoop

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has played down talk of a summer swoop for Ipswich starlet Connor Wickham. The Tractor Boys teenager has been linked with a big-money move to the Premier League following his impressive displays in the Championship. Portman Road boss Paul Jewell has admitted he may struggle to retain the services of the 18-year-old should he receive an offer of 'silly money'. Spurs were said to be leading the chase, but Redknapp reckons the youngster would be better served by spending another season away from the top-flight spotlight. The White Hart Lane boss said: "I don't see us paying the sort of money that Ipswich are talking about. "He's not someone who'd be ready to play in the first team next season. He'd be better off staying for another year."

Meanwhile, Luka Modric and Vedran Corluka have called on Spurs to focus on finishing fourth in the Premier League after their drubbing by Real Madrid. The North London club suffered a 4-0 reverse in the first leg of their quarter-final clash to see their enthralling European adventure effectively ended for this season. Tottenham will have to climb to into the top four if they are to qualify for a place among the cream of the continent again, with Stoke the visitors to White Hart Lane on Saturday. Modric said: "The opportunity to reach the semi-finals is gone. We need to concentrate on the championship now." Corluka, who could miss Saturday's clash with Stoke with an ankle injury, added: I do not expect a miracle in the second leg."
