Scholes believes Rooney has received stick since World Cup

Paul Scholes has hit out at what he believes has been the scapegoating of Wayne Rooney since England's dismal failure at last summer's World Cup. The United veteran believes his team-mate has received stick ever since the Three Lions crashed out to Germany in South Africa. Rooney is now returning to form at just the right time - bagging a hat-trick at West Ham in the league and then scoring the winner against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League - and Scholes has hailed the 25-year-old's quality. Scholes told United Review: "He has received stick ever since the World Cup.

Scapegoat

"It seems as though he has been made a scapegoat for what happened, and that isn't right when there are 22 other players in the England squad. "But Wayne showed at West Ham why he plays for us every week. "He showed what he is capable of doing and gave a match-winning performance."
