Everton defender Leighton Baines has backed Wigan to beat the drop after his penalty denied the Latics two precious points in their relegation battle.
Baines left Wigan for Goodison Park in a £6million deal in the summer of 2007 and is now regarded as one of the finest left-backs in the Premier League.
He stepped up to slot home from the penalty spot 12 minutes from time at the DW Stadium on Saturday after Hugo Rodallega had handled in the box.
That strike cancelled out Charles N'Zogbia's opener for the hosts, with Roberto Martinez's men remaining in the bottom three on goal difference with three games of the season remaining.
Do your job
Baines said: "What it meant to score wasn't in my mind - but about five seconds later it dawned on me.
"You just have to step up and do your job. My loyalties lie with Everton, nobody else.
"Wigan still mean a lot to me because of what they did for me as a young lad coming through. I am very grateful for that.
"I hope the penalty won't end up carrying too much weight and they will be fine. They showed they have enough about them."
