Tottenham midfielder will undergo operation after African Cup qualifier

Steven Pienaar will undergo surgery following South Africa's clash with Egypt on Sunday. The Tottenham winger, who moved from Everton to White Hart Lane in January this year, revealed he has been carrying groin and thigh problems for some time. And the midfielder will go under the knife after his return from international duty this weekend. The 29-year-old, who has held off surgery until after the African Cup qualifier, has not made a huge impact for the north London side since his mid-season move. And hoping the operation will end his injury worries, the former Everton midfielder said: "The injury has been giving me lots of problems over the last few months. "I've decided to go for the operation after the international."
