Striker fears lack of service if wing pair depart in the summer

Darren Bent has asked his Aston Villa team-mates Ashley Young and Stewart Downing to remain at the club next season. The striker has enjoyed quality service from both players since arriving at Villa Park in an £18million January move. But with Young reportedly a target for Manchester United and Downing turning heads at Liverpool, Bent has been forced to plead with the wide men to remain in the Midlands. Currently on international duty, the 27-year-old was quick to pay tribute to the talent at Villa and is hopeful the club's star men will remain going into next season. Bent said: "I've been in both of their ears trying to convince them to stay. "They are two top, top players and, if we can hold onto them next season, it will be fantastic. "I hope they stay. What is going on in their careers and lives is down to them. "But for me, being a striker, you want the best service and they are probably the two best wingers in the league. "If we can keep hold of them both I will be very, very happy."
