Striker looking forward to working with Eyre after agreeing two-year deal

Rochdale have agreed a two-year contract to sign striker Ashley Grimes on a free transfer following his departure from Millwall. Grimes was allowed to leave Millwall at the end of his contract after spending a large part of last season on loan at Lincoln City. The 24-year-old's impressive form at Lincoln saw the forward linked with the likes of Colchester United, Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday. However, Grimes has opted for a move to Spotland and the opportunity to work with Dale boss Steve Eyre, who he knows from his time at Manchester City earlier in his career.

Very pleased

"I have agreed to sign and I'm very pleased to be linking up with Steve Eyre once again," Grimes told the club's official website. "I have had some interest from plenty of clubs which has been great but when I knew Rochdale and Steve were interested it was a move I simply couldn't refuse. "I know this football club has done really well over the last few years and I want to be part of the further progression of the club. "I know Steve from my time at Man City and I know he's a top coach and a top man and I'm sure he can keep moving this club forward. "I'm hoping I can carry on scoring goals for Rochdale, I will work hard there is no doubt about that and I'm itching to get started."
