Saints boss keen to continue team's evolution

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins has confirmed he hopes to strengthen his squad further following the capture of Chelsea's Jack Cork. England Under-21 midfielder Cork is the Saints' first signing of the summer as the south coast club prepare for life back in the Championship after a two year absence. Former Scunthorpe manager Adkins, who moved to Southampton last September, has revealed they are working hard to bring further additions to St Mary's, but stressed the team spirit already found among his existing players. "First and foremost we're making sure that we bring the right people into the football club," Adkins told club's official website. "There'll be mass speculation about all sorts of players. I said at the end of the season I was hoping to bring two or three players into the football club to keep the evolution of the football club moving. "It's still very early in the transfer window and the evolution of the team will keep going, but the important thing is that we've got that great team spirit at this moment in time." Adkins also took time out to praise new signing Cork, a player familiar with the club after a loan spell at St Mary's in 2008. "He's a young, hungry player with a lot of ability and a fantastic future in front of him. "We've got a vision there to get ourselves back into the Premiership and develop our own players, young and hungry players, and bringing Jack Cork into our football club gives us another opportunity to keep progressing in the right direction."
