David Nugent says it was Leicester's Premier League ambitions that persuaded him to sign for the club.

Striker attracted by Foxes' ambition

New striker David Nugent has revealed it was Leicester City's lofty ambitions that persuaded him to sign for the club. Backed by their wealthy Thai owners, Sven Goran Eriksson's men have been busy in the summer transfer window, bringing in Kasper Schmeichel, Lee Peltier, Neil Danns, Matt Mills and Sean St-Ledger as well as Nugent. The 26-year-old left Portsmouth at the end of last season after his contract expired and had been linked with a host of clubs. However, the former Preston striker insists Leicester were the only club he was interested in after speaking to Eriksson about the Foxes' Premier League ambitions. "There was a lot of clubs interested, but Leicester made a firm offer first," he said. "They've been trying to get me since last January so they know what I'm about. "The gaffer gave me a phone call and said he wants me at the club. He told me the ambition is to get in the Premier League so there was only one club I wanted to come to when I knew they were interested."
