Russia international aiming to get back to his explosive best

Arsenal's Andrey Arshavin has set himself a target of 15 goals ahead of the new season as he seeks to recapture his best form. The former Zenit St Petersburg attacker was an instant hit at the Emirates following his arrival at the club in January 2009. He memorably scored four outstanding goals at Anfield but was very rarely at the peak of his creative and goalscoring powers last term. Refreshed after the summer break, the mercurial talent has announced that both he and Arsenal will be better next season.

Stronger

"I think we will get stronger and stronger," he told the Official Matchday Programme. "In particular I think our work on set pieces, both attacking and defending, will be better. We'll also play a pressing game - if we do that well, I'm sure you'll see an improved team. "My own target is simple - I would like to score 15 goals in total."
Emirates Cup
This year's Emirates Cup will take place at the weekend and also features Paris Saint Germain, Boca Juniors and New York Red Bulls. It is a competition that the Gunners have won twice during the Russia international's tenure but he would easily trade success here for more illustrious silverware later in the campaign. "I always enjoy this tournament and hopefully we'll show plenty of good things, but to be honest it's not vital to win it," he added. "We've done that twice since I've been here and didn't win any trophies the following season, so I'd happily swap."
