Manchester United have confirmed winger Antonio Valencia has signed a new four-year contract.

Winger delighted to agree new terms with Premier League champions

Manchester United have confirmed winger Antonio Valencia has signed a new four-year contract with the Premier League champions. Valencia has been an influential figure for the Red Devils since joining the club from Wigan Athletic two years ago. Though he missed a large part of last season through injury, the 25-year-old returned for the closing couple of months of the campaign to play a key role in United's record-breaking 19th title success. Red Devils chief executive David Gill revealed over the weekend that the Ecuador international had agreed an extension and the deal has now been signed. Valencia, who has scored 10 goals in 69 appearances for United, is happy to have been rewarded with a new contract ahead of the 2011/12 season.

Delighted

"I am delighted to stay at United," Valencia told the club's official website. "Since my first day at Carrington, I have been happy here. I hope that I can continue to develop as a player. "I am looking forward to making my contribution to helping this squad compete for more trophies." United boss Sir Alex Ferguson added: "Antonio has made a fantastic contribution since his arrival. His speed, crossing ability and versatility have been a big asset for us. "He has a quiet, unassuming way of going about his business, which is underlined by great strength of character as his recovery from such a bad injury last season proves."
