Midfielder goes into squad for weekend clash with Leeds

Middlesbrough have secured the services of Argentine midfielder Julio Arca on a two-year contract. The 30-year-old's previous deal expired at the end of last season but there was always a willingness from manager Tony Mowbray and the player to agree fresh terms. It is understood that the former Sunderland player has agreed to take a pay cut to remain with the Championship side, who he joined in 2006 from their North East rivals. Arca will go straight into the squad for the Championship trip to Leeds on Saturday. Mowbray told the club's official website: "It's fantastic news. Julio was outstanding last season and I'm delighted he has decided to extend his career at Boro. "He is popular with the fans and in the dressing room and he is a player I value for the skill and experience he can bring to our team."
