Ipswich plan to offer midfielder a new contract

Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell plans to offer Grant Leadbitter a new contract after dismissing talk of a bid for the midfielder. Leadbitter joined Ipswich from Sunderland two years ago and he is approaching 100 appearances for the club. He is in the final year of his contract at Portman Road and has been linked with a £2million move to Championship rivals Portsmouth. However, Jewell has shot down talk of receiving an approach for Leadbitter and is keen to offer the 25-year-old an extension. "There has been no bid for Grant and the owner (Marcus Evans) and I are planning to sit down with him next week and offer a new deal," said Jewell. The Town boss has boosted his midfield options this week by signing Keith Andrews on loan from Blackburn Rovers ahead of Saturday's game against Hull City.
