Midfielder handed immediate debut after impressing on trial

Sheffield United have completed the signing of Kevin McDonald after the midfielder impressed on trial in pre-season. McDonald has been training with the Blades since being released by Burnley at the end of last season and he has agreed a one-year contract. Blades boss Danny Wilson revealed on Friday that plc chairman Kevin McCabe had found room in the budget for McDonald, who is happy to be joining the League One club. "I've been here quite a while on trial but I totally understood the situation and the manager spoke to me regularly," McDonald told the club's official website. "There are lots of quality midfielders here already but everyone likes competition. I want to play as much as possible, that is the immediate aim." The Scot was handed an immediate competitive debut by Wilson after being named in the starting line-up for Saturday's game at home to Brentford.
