Midfielder to miss Liverpool, United & Swansea games

Arsenal midfielder Alex Song has been handed a three-match ban after accepting a charge of violent conduct. Song was handed the charge after stamping on Newcastle's Joey Barton during Arsenal's goalless draw at St James' Park last weekend. The incident was missed by referee Peter Walton during the game but the Football Association decided to act after reviewing video footage. "Arsenal's Alex Song will begin a three match suspension with immediate effect after he accepted a charge of violent conduct," read an FA statement. "Song was charged following in incident during Arsenal's fixture at Newcastle United on Saturday 13th August." It means Song along with Gunners team-mate Gervinho, who was sent off in the same game for raising his hands to Barton, will miss Arsenal's next three Premier League games against Liverpool, Manchester United and Swansea.
