Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that midfield is one area he is looking to strengthen before the transfer window slams shut.
The Swans were given a harsh Premier League lesson by Manchester City in their opening fixture of the new season, giving their manager plenty of food for thought.
One of the conclusions that that was drawn from that game, and a busy pre-season schedule, is that the club could do with extra bodies in the middle of the park.
They already have a number of potential starters on their books, but added competition for places is never a bad thing.
Rodgers hopes he will be able to bolster his ranks before the 31st August deadline, with it his intention to get fresh faces on board as quickly as possible.
He said: "We need to make sure we have enough strength and that there is enough depth, and midfield is a key part of our game.
"A lot of the basis of our work on the field is based around midfield and it's about having enough of the different types for us to control the game or win the ball, and it's about having coverage at the back."
Meanwhile, Rodgers is hoping that club captain Garry Monk will be back in contention for the Swans' next outing against Wigan.
He came through a reserve fixture against Bolton on Wednesday unscathed and appears to have shaken off the foot problem which kept him out of the season opener against City.
Rodgers added: "Garry came through and played 90 minutes and we are just monitoring him as his foot is not quite perfect.
"He has had a recovery day today (Thursday), he will have a recovery day tomorrow and we will see how he is."
