Celtic captain 'very close' to agreeing contract extension

Celtic captain Scott Brown has confirmed that he is poised to put pen to paper on a new deal with the Hoops. Brown has less than 12 months left on his existing deal but is on course to extend his Parkhead stay following discussions with the club's hierarchy. The 26-year-old has been with Celtic since the summer of 2007 when he signed in a £4.4million deal from Hibernian. Ahead of Sunday's SPL clash with St Johnstone at Parkhead, the Scotland midfielder has set his sights on further glory with Neil Lennon's men.

Very close

He said: "We are getting very close. Hopefully it's just a matter of time, maybe a couple of weeks or so. "I hope to sign, yes. I want to stay at this club, I enjoy this club. The manager wants me to stay and I want to stay for the manager as well. "Since he came in I have improved as a player and hopefully I can improve even more. "I want to win the league and cups, that's why I came to this club. I have had a taste of it before and I want more."
