West Bromwich Albion manager Roy Hodgson was disgruntled that Stoke City's late winner at The Hawthorns was allowed to stand.
The Baggies lost their third successive Premier League game in controversial circumstances when Ryan Shotton took advantage of a defensive mix-up between goalkeeper Ben Foster and defender Gabriel Tamas on 89 minutes to slot home the winner in a 1-0 victory.
It has been alleged that the substitute defender kicked the ball out of Foster's hands and Hodgson believes that the accusations are correct but also underlines his custodian's mistake.
"To lose like that is very galling, especially having seen the replays," he lamented. "I thought we defended it very, very badly.
"Foster could have been brave and taken the stud in the chest. But unfortunately he decided to turn away from the stud and, as a result, we conceded a goal.
"I think the referee could have helped in the situation by giving the free-kick because the player has put his foot high and was leading with his studs.
"The game was heading to 0-0, which, for us, a team that never has a clean sheet, would not have been such a disaster but unfortunately that was taken away from us.
"I saw it as a foul, the referee didn't. That is football."
West Brom remain in the bottom three and will take on Norwich City at Carrow Road after the international break.
