Senegal international is on his way to Upton Park

Sky Sports News understands West Ham are closing in on free agent Papa Bouba Diop. The 33-year-old earned the nickname 'the wardrobe' for his imposing frame during his previous tenure in the Premier League with Fulham and Portsmouth. Diop is a powerful figure at 6ft 5in and will no doubt relish the physical nature of the Championship.

Loan

Earlier on Tuesday, Tottenham's Jake Livermore turned down the chance to drop down a division and join the Hammers on loan. His decision prompted a quick reaction from manager Sam Allardyce, who turned his attention to the granite-tackling midfielder. Diop will bring a wealth of experience into the club and memorably scored the first goal of the 2002 World Cup for Senegal. Diop spent last season in Greece with AEK Athens but he was hampered by injuries, however, that did not stop him from helping them to win the Greek Cup. But the Senegal midfielder proved his fitness as he played 65 minutes for a West ham development squad that beat Brentford 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
