Hessenthaler feels defender needs competitive football

Plymouth Argyle have snapped up defender Simon King on a month's loan from League Two rivals Gillingham. King has not featured for Gillingham so far this season after enduring a torrid time with injuries over the past couple of years. The 28-year-old missed the entire 2009/10 campaign due to an ankle ligament injury and was restricted to just four appearances last term. He has now been allowed to join Plymouth to build up his match fitness and Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler feels King will benefit from the move. "I've got a lot of respect and time for Simon, he has been through hell and back over the last couple of years," Hessenthaler told the club's official website. "He came back last year, and played a couple of games, and he has a decent pre-season under his belt. Now he just wants to play competitive games." King could make his debut for Plymouth when League Two's bottom club head to Burton Albion on Saturday.
