Arsenal have confirmed the capture of Brazil defender Andre Santos on a long-term contract from Fenerbahce.

Left-back moves for fee thought to be in the region of £6m

Arsenal have confirmed the capture of Brazil defender Andre Santos on a long-term contract from Fenerbahce. The 28-year-old left-back moves to the Emirates for an undisclosed fee, thought to be in the region of £6m, having been with the Turkish champions since 2009. Santos is expected to be a direct replacement for Gael Clichy who departed for Manchester City earlier in the transfer window, while fellow left-back Armand Traore has joined QPR following Sunday's 8-2 humbling at Manchester United. On the new arrival, Wenger told Arsenal's official website: "Santos is a quality player, with the ability to both defend well and get forward and help with attacks. "He has experience in the Champions League and for Brazil and has proven he can deliver at the highest level. We welcome Santos to the club and look forward to him having a big impact for us." Santos added: "I am delighted to have signed for Arsenal. It was one of my dreams to play for a major European football club and I have accomplished this. "I am very happy to be part of this team. All the Brazilians who came to this club spoke wonders about it and I am delighted to be part of the Arsenal family." The pressure remains on Wenger following Arsenal's poor start to the campaign and the weekend defeat at Old Trafford has seen a late rush to make additions before the window closes.
