Injured Burnley striker Danny Ings says he has not set a target date for his comeback as he continues his recovery from successful knee surgery.
The 19-year-old went under the knife after tearing cartilage in his knee in an innocuous training ground incident just days after arriving at Turf Moor from Bournemouth on a four-year deal last month.
Manager Eddie Howe has previously said he expects Ings to be out for four or five months but the youngster himself is putting no timeline on his return to action for the time being.
Ings told the
Lancashire Telegraph: "I think it's just how it goes, there isn't a certain time limit, it's just when you're ready. You know yourself when you're ready.
"It was literally one of those freak accidents. I was doing a bit extra in training, I had a shot and I just landed on my shooting foot and felt my knee pop inwards. I heard the tear myself.
"It was my second proper training session and I wanted to make a good first impression.
"The first two days of training were going really well but it's one of those things you've got to try to get over and move on from."
Success
He added: "The operation was a success, they managed to fix most of the cartilage that was in the knee so that's a positive for me in the long term.
"I'm in every day at 8.30am doing gym session every day, which is tough.
"But I've been working on my upper body, which the gaffer knows I need to work on anyway.
"Hopefully I've got this one out of the way and I'll be injury free for the rest of my contract here now."
