Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish will not rush Sebastian Coates into English football, but expects the defender is 'chomping at the bit' to be involved against Stoke.
The Uruguayan centre-back's arrival at Anfield was confirmed on the eve of transfer deadline day after a deal was completed with Nacional.
Coates had underlined his reputation as a rising star with the award of Best Young Player in his country's winning Copa America campaign this summer.
Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli had been tracking the 20-year-old since 2009 and Dalglish has also been impressed with what he has seen, but the Scot is in no hurry.
Ahead of Saturday's trip to Stoke, where Craig Bellamy could make his second debut for Liverpool, Dalglish said: "Sebastian was on Damien's radar for two years. Obviously he would have only been 18 then.
"He came to prominence in the Copa America when he won it with Uruguay and was voted Young Player of the Tournament - and that's not a bad accolade when you consider (Alexis) Sanchez went for 40 million to Barcelona. He must have played well!
"We're happy to have him in. We just need to give him time to settle down and we look forward to it."

On whether Coates and Bellamy were desperate to face Stoke, Dalglish said: "I would think so. I would hope so. I think everybody is chomping at the bit to be involved at Stoke."
It was a hectic transfer window for Liverpool, as Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing, Alexander Doni, Jose Enrique and Craig Bellamy all moved to Anfield.
At the same time, 16 players left the club either on loan or on a permanent basis and Dalglish, who took over last winter, believes Comolli deserves huge credit.
The Scot said: "Damien did a fantastic job. It was hard work on everybody that was involved in it.
"I think since we came in 18 players have gone out. It's not just the transfer window that's been busy for us, there's been a big turnaround in players which has been very important for us.
"Damien has had a few days off which he thoroughly deserved!"
Dalglish also said: "Some of the boys that have left the club were fantastic and not a problem whatsoever. They deserve great credit as well and we wish them well."
