Youngster wants chance to shine at Emirates

Sunderland's Jack Colback is eager to do whatever he can to become a first-team choice for Steve Bruce. The midfielder began this season in the Black Cats' starting line-up, however, following the emergence of summer signings Craig Gardner and David Vaughan, the 21-year-old has found himself back on the bench. The youngster also has the difficult task of battling for a space in the centre of the park with captain Lee Cattermole. But the former Sunderland academy player, who has enjoyed two loan spells at Ipswich Town, is under no illusions that he will have to fight hard in order to become a regular starter in the Premier League. "It's been disappointing to drop down to the bench recently but that is part and parcel of football," he told the club's official website.

Quality

"We have a lot of options here and the manager has plenty of quality at his disposal so it's inevitable that at certain points he's going to want to change it around. "All I can do is keep doing what I've been doing and hopefully be good enough to be selected next time." Colback's next challenge will be to get into the side which travels to London next weekend to face Arsenal, who have had an indifferent start to the season. "They've had a tricky start, but there's still plenty of quality down there," he said. "It'll be tough but we'll go there with the belief we can get something from the game. "I came on as a sub in the game last year, which was a great experience - the Emirates is one of those great stadiums you want to play in. Hopefully I can go one better this time and start the game."
