Chris Kirland hopes to kick-start his career after joining Doncaster on loan from Wigan.
Former Liverpool and Coventry goalkeeper Kirkland has joined Rovers until January after finding himself well down the pecking order at the DW Stadium.
The 30-year-old has found himself playing second fiddle to Ali Al Habsi for the last two seasons and Kirkland hopes he can get himself back on track by playing regular first-team football at the Keepmoat Stadium.
"My career has gone backwards in the last year, last 18 months, so I am determined to kick-start it again and hopefully I can do well for the club," Kirkland told
Sky Sports News.
"I am just going to knuckle down and give it everything. All I am focusing on is Doncaster now and trying to help them as much as I can and them helping me and hopefully it will be a good partnership."
Uncertain future
Kirkland's contract at Wigan expires next summer and the former England man admits he is unsure over his future at the Latics.
"I don't know you would have to ask the gaffer," said Kirkland when quizzed about his future at Wigan under Roberto Martinez.
"I am out of contract in the summer so that's a question for Wigan to answer."
Doncaster boss Dean Saunders was delighted to land Kirkland and he has challenged him to use his loan spell to reignite his career.
"It's a great signing for us. To have a goalkeeper of his stature coming to play for us, I couldn't have hoped for anything more," said Saunders.
"I cannot thank Wigan enough for allowing us to do that. Hopefully Chris will get playing for us and get his career back on track.
"He's a top-class goalkeeper and he needs to show everyone. He has a stage at Doncaster to do that."
