Maurice Edu believes that the football pitch has become a retreat from the off-field problems at Rangers.
The Ibrox club are facing the prospect of being forced into administration and a mammoth 25-point deduction in the SPL.
The American midfielder believes using matches to escape the reality of potentially losing their jobs has inspired the players to open up a 12-point gap over Celtic.
Edu told the
Daily Record: "How could it be easy to lose your job? It would affect us the same as everybody else. We'd be out of work and we'd need to find another job.
Fear
"That's a situation some people fear. The players are aware of everything that's been said and the different things that are being put out there, but what can we do?
"We can only focus on playing and try to put those things to the back of our mind.
"Hopefully things work out well for us and the club can come out of this situation."
Edu was unaware of the tax investigation at Rangers when he joined the Glasgow club from Toronto, but has used social networking sites to gain an insight into what is happening and he recognises that it is an issue that affects him.
Unforeseeable
"It's a concern and one that's been there for the past two years," he continued. "We've been put through circumstances that were unforeseeable when I joined the club.
"There's always a business aspect attached to a club as big as Rangers but there are times when you have to realise we're just players.
"There are things that are out of our control and we can't dictate what will happen in this particular instance.
"You can listen to everything and let it overwhelm and distract you or else you can just focus on playing.
"Football is our passion and our escape from reality. We're just trying to enjoy ourselves and hoping that things will work out."
