Midfielder aware that Latics need to start picking up points

Ben Watson admits Wigan face a crucial run of fixtures in their efforts to haul themselves off the foot of the Premier League table. The Latics have suffered seven straight defeats to slip to the bottom of the top-flight standings. They may be in a serious slump at the moment, but there is a belief within the DW Stadium camp that their fortunes may be about to change. Roberto Martinez's side are readying themselves for games against Wolves, Blackburn and Sunderland, and believe they can take something from all of those matches.

Significance

That is the view of Watson, with the midfielder aware that Wigan must start taking points off those around them if they are to clamber out of the drop zone. "It is early in the season, but I don't think you can overplay the significance of games like this," he told the Wigan Evening Post. "From the moment you get the fixture list in the summer, you look at games like this and target them for picking up points. "You have to beat the teams around you, and we know we have to perform well to do that."
