Team-mate hails Sunderland keeper's qualities

Sunderland defender Michael Turner reckons team-mate Keiren Westwood has the ability to become a Premier League star. Republic of Ireland keeper Westwood produced a man-of-the-match display for the Black Cats against Manchester United in his first top-flight start. He made a string of fine saves, including a superb double stop to keep Wayne Rooney and Patrice Evra at bay, as he limited United to a narrow 1-0 win at Old Trafford. The 27-year-old had previously been forced to watch from the bench since his free summer switch from Championship strugglers Coventry. But first-choice Simon Mignolet's recent facial injury has opened the door for Westwood to stake his claim.

Vocal

Turner said: "Keiren has done really well. He has been waiting patiently for his chance with Simon playing well. "Now he has come in and made his full Premier League debut and shown he is a great goalkeeper. He showed that with his saves. "Keiren is really vocal and is always shouting at the defence. His kicking is very good, he has a very strong left foot. "He will be keen to keep his place and that will help the whole team if he keeps performing like he did at United."
