Scotland ace delighted to be back among the goals for his country

Scotland's Jamie Mackie has expressed his delight at scoring his first international goal since breaking his leg. The QPR man suffered the blow earlier this year against Blackburn in the FA Cup and has spent much of the year recovering. Mackie marked his return to the Scotland setup on Friday with a goal in their 2-1 win over Cyprus. The 26-year-old has labelled his time on the sidelines as a 'nightmare' and a 'frustrating' period. "It (the injury) was just a nightmare, it was terrible timing," explained Mackie. "I was doing really well for my club, going for promotion and really frustrating missing the qualifiers. "I had just become a regular part of the squad so I was gutted. But that's in the past, I put in a lot of hard work to get myself back at this level. "Now I feel I'm back and have a bit more experience."

Gutted

Meanwhile, Mackie has expressed his disappointment that key player Steven Naismith is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after damaging knee ligaments playing for Rangers. The Rs striker has been one of the beneficiaries of Naismith's absence in Craig Levein's team and he wishes the Gers ace a speedy recovery. "I'm gutted for Naisy, he's a great lad," he continued. "I was in the squad with him the first time I was here and I really liked him. "I've been there with a bad injury and I wish him all the best. "More so than me doing well, I hope he comes back nice and strong because it's horrible when you get a bad injury. "I'm sure he'll be back and I can't wait for him to be back in the squad because the more quality we have the better."
