Midfielder James Morrison is enjoying his football at West Brom but admits he still fears he will be dropped from Roy Hodgson's first team.
The 25-year-old has impressed in a more central position over the Baggies' last few games, combining his attacking prowess with less familiar defensive duties.
But while Morrison is pleased with his recent form, the Scotland international admits he never feels completely assured of a place in the side.
"I've played the last three weeks but leading up to the team being named on a Saturday I'm still questioning 'am I going to play'?'' he told the Birmingham Mail.
"It keeps you on your toes and you have to keep working hard in training and do the right things because sometimes if you know you're playing you don't do them.
"I like to think my first season in the Premier League was just as good as I'm playing now.
"My career under Roy has been stop-start but I'm playing regularly now and I feel like it's what I can do.
"I don't see it as a surprise at all."
Morrison says he has learned to incorporate the defensive duties required to satisfy Hodgson's demands into his game.
"Under Roy I knew I had to learn the defensive side of my position," he added.
"I've taken my time and waited for my chance. To stay in the team I've got to do both sides of the game.
"I've been disciplined and that's what our midfield is about. Once you're in the middle you have to do everything. My mindset is different now."
