Midfielder to miss festive period due to ankle ligament injury

Derby County midfielder Jeff Hendrick has been ruled out of the busy festive period after suffering ankle ligament damage. The Republic of Ireland Under 21 international had to be carried off in the closing stages of the Rams' 1-0 defeat by Ipswich last Saturday. An MRI scan has since revealed Hendrick suffered ankle ligament damage that looks set to keep him out for a couple of weeks. The Academy product recently signed a new long-term deal with the club and has featured prominently in manager Nigel Clough's first-team plans during the current campaign. Derby are also without striker Steven Davies (skull) and goalkeeper Saul Deeney (shoulder) over Christmas. Otherwise, Clough has a full squad to choose from ahead of the home games with Leeds on Boxing Day and West Ham on New Year's Eve, before they face Hull away on 2nd January.
