Carrick: We'll bounce back

Michael Carrick insists there is no self-pity at Manchester United as they aim to bounce back to winning ways at Manchester City.

No-one feeling sorry for themselves after defeats, says United midfielder

Michael Carrick insists there is no self-pity at Old Trafford as Manchester United aim to bounce back to winning ways at neighbours Manchester City. Midfielder Carrick admitted United are hurting after suffering straight Premier League defeats against Blackburn and Newcastle. The shock losses have left United three points behind leaders City, but they have an early opportunity to lift spirits by knocking last year's winners out of the FA Cup when the sides meet at the Etihad Stadium. And England international Carrick has backed his side to silence their doubters with a positive result in Sunday's third round tie.

Reaction

He said: "The reaction outside is as though the whole world has caved in. "But since I've been here we have had worse times than this. "It hurts. One defeat is bad enough. Two in a row is not really what we are about. "We are disappointed and we are feeling it. But we are not feeling sorry for ourselves. "We tend to overcome setbacks pretty well. Hopefully we can do the same again this time."
Unacceptable
Carrick, 30, admits the manner of Wednesday's defeat at St James' Park, where they were outplayed in almost every department, was unacceptable for United. But he reckons the players will not dwell on the result. "We don't like losing. And losing 3-0 is not something that should happen," he said. "But we have to take it on the chin. "There is no way around it. We have to look ahead. We can't change what has happened in the last week."
