German to miss both legs of Copa del Rey quarter-final

Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has been ruled out for a month after sustaining an ankle ligament injury. The Germany international suffered the setback in the first half of Tuesday's Copa del Rey win over Malaga and had to be stretchered from the field. Further assessment of the injury has now confirmed the extent of the damage and Khedira is facing four weeks on the sidelines. The former Stuttgart midfielder's injury means he will now miss both legs of Real's Copa del Rey quarter-final, where they are likely meet Barcelona, as part of a probable seven-match absence. Pep Guardiola's Barcelona lead Osasuna 4-0 on aggregate ahead of the second leg of their last-16 tie on Thursday night. Real manager Jose Mourinho will hope to have Khedira available again at the end of February in time for the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie against CSKA Moscow.
