England striker scores his 100th Premier League goal

Alex McLeish felt his side should have been given a penalty as they came from behind to claim a 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers. Villa found themselves two goals down courtesy of strikes from debutant Djibril Cisse and a Stephen Warnock own goal. But Darren Bent scored his 100th Premier League goal just before the interval after an incisive Villa move. However, the Villa chief felt his side should have been given a spot-kick after Shaun Derry handled in the area. "I felt we should have hand a penalty," he told Sky Sports. "I felt Derry handled the ball - it was going up towards the postage stamp, sometimes you get them and sometimes you don't.

Penalty

"That one was heading to the top corner but he [referee] didn't give it." Yet, despite that, McLeish praised the passage of play that led to Villa's opener and demanded to see that kind of football at Villa park more often. "It was very important, we upped the tempo for that goal there was some great passing and it was an easy tap in for Bent," he added.
Tempo
"Before that, we were pedestrian and too slow with the passing. We are not a Man City who can keep the ball and then suddenly create chances in the other box. "We've got to have a tempo especially here at Villa Park, the fans expect it, and I expect it as well." Bent's land mark goal came in the colours of his fourth Premier League club and the goal scoring instincts of the England international were hailed by his boss. "He's a poacher, he's a penalty box player," he continued. "Sometimes you don't see Darren much in terms of the build-up but when that ball is in the box, that boy is elusive and congratulations to Darren on his 100th goal."
