Darron Gibson has been forced to pull out of the Republic of Ireland squad to face the Czech Republic next week due to injury.
The Everton midfielder has picked up a knee injury, although the Premier League club have yet to ascertain the severity of the problem.
The 24-year-old had been set to accompany club team-mates Seamus Coleman and Shane Duffy to Dublin for next Wednesday's friendly at the Aviva Stadium before sustaining the injury which is still being assessed.
Gibson's injury is a worry for Everton boss David Moyes although the club do not have a game until 3rd March when they travel to struggling Queens Park Rangers.
Everton were scheduled to face Liverpool this weekend, but their Merseyside rivals' participation in the Carling Cup final against Cardiff City means the derby will be played at a later date.
Gibson has played seven games for Everton since joining the club from Manchester United and he is yet to taste defeat with the Toffees.
He endured an injury-hit first half of the season at United and his last appearance for Ireland came in the 0-0 friendly draw with Croatia back in August.
